So in my ministry I have worked a lot with youth and children. I think it is sad when I realize how often kids don’t know basic Biblical stories.
For instance when I was younger I was playing win lose or draw. A teenager drew the clue Jonah and the whale from the hat. She looked at me with big eyes and whispered, “I don’t know what that is.”
I couldn’t believe it because she had been in church for a while.
I was recently taken back again, I asked a class of teenagers, “Who is Abraham? ”
Most looked at each other for an answer. However, one boy raised his hand and waved to get my attention. When I called on him he yelled out, “He is the president who ended slavery in America.”
I had to stop and complimented his efforts. It is funny, but sad as well. It is a deficit that we need to be aware of.
